Learning Beyond the Classroom: Our Approach to Educational Visits
At our school, we believe that learning is not limited to the classroom. Educational visits play a vital role in enriching our curriculum and helping children connect their learning to the wider world. We aim to take each class on at least one out-of-school visit per term, carefully chosen to enhance their classroom topics and spark curiosity.
Our parents consistently tell us how much they value these experiences, and we are fortunate to be surrounded by a wealth of local attractions. Recent trips have included St Michael's Mount, Geevor Tin Mine, Helston Museum, Marazion Marsh, and our beautiful local beaches, all offering hands-on learning and memorable moments.
We also aim to give children a festive treat each year, and while plans vary, we always strive to make it a joyful and inclusive experience.
To support access for all, the school works hard to subsidize the cost of trips wherever possible. Our Parents’ Fundraising Group plays a key role in helping us keep costs low, and while we may ask for parental contributions, no child is ever excluded if a family is unable to pay.
Overnight visit in Year 3 and 4
Our Year 3 and 4 children have the opportunity to take part in a one night overnight stay at Christmas time at Cohort St Ives. The visit is full of activity and fun and a great opportunity to build their confidence in being away from home.
Residential Visits for Years 5 and 6
We offer exciting residential opportunities for children in Years 5 and 6, alternating each year between a city break and an outdoor activity camp. These experiences help build independence, teamwork, and confidence.
- In 2023, we headed to Dartmoor’s Heatree Activity Centre for three days of climbing, moorland exploration, mountain biking, and outdoor adventures.
- In 2024, we returned to Bristol, continuing our tradition of alternating between urban and outdoor experiences.
- In 2025 we were back to Dartmoor for more adventure
These residentials are a highlight of the children's time in Key Stage 2 and offer unforgettable learning opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom walls.
